Who am I as a therapist?
I am a Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Professional Clinical Counselor Registered Intern with the Board of Behavioral Science. I hold a Bachelors degree in psychology from San José State University and a Masters degree in counseling psychology from Santa Clara University.
I believe that therapist growth significantly impacts clients. This is why I am committed to continuing to attend supervision, seminars, conferences, workshops, as well as personal psychotherapy. I am also a member of several professional associations including CAMFT, NCSPP, CALPCC, and Psychotherapy Networker. Lastly, it is important for you to know that I meet with three peer groups weekly for clinical case-consultation.
Although I see therapeutic work primarily through a psychodynamic lens, I am informed by several other theoretical orientations including but not limited to attachment theory, cognitive-behaviorial therapy, systems therapy and client-centered therapy. Depending your needs, one approach may be utilized more than another. It is important that I am flexible enough to be able to utilize whichever technique will be the most beneficial to you at any given time. This eclectic healing presence allows me to effectively meet the needs of a diverse clientele.
Some of the key components that I bring to the therapeutic process are respect, patience, humor, compassion, and an empathetic understanding. I use active-listening to aide patient’s in finding the root of their own issues. Depending on the presenting problem, family members may be asked to participate in select sessions. This is thoroughly discussed and evaluated on a client-by-client basis.
Some clients who are interested in deeper more intense psychological work will meet for sessions several times in the week. This is decided between the therapist and the client on a case-by-case basis.
As your therapist, I promise to take an active role in my own self-care so that I can be present, authentic, and self-aware. I believe that as a team we can set goals and work toward reaching them. I believe that you have what it takes to creatively find solutions to problems when the space is created for you to do so. Because of this I vow to create and hold the space so that you can "do the work."
